UK industrial strategy: ambition to place UK at the forefront of technological change
The economic importance of developing a digitally capable workforce for the UK comes to the fore in the UK industrial strategy white paper.
The UK industrial strategy (November 2017) heavily features technological innovation. It recognises that we are part of "a global economy that is changing rapidly, shaped by the emergence of new technologies". Numerous examples of technology-related industries identified as being of "strategic value" to the UK economy are cited within the white paper which also highlights how the businesses and citizens of the UK can "benefit from the opportunities of technological change".
The white paper identifies people as one of five foundations that will be important in achieving these ambitions and acknowledges the need to strengthen skills.
